'Schallplattenunterhalter' (records' entertainer) - acronym SPU - was the official term for official disk jockeys in the German Democratic Republic. This term was chosen simply to avoid the English 'DJ'. Only a certified 'SPU' was permitted to spin in front of a bigger audience. Of course East Berlin 'SPU's
Patenbrigade Wolff have official permission and once again they deal in a critical - as well as in a humorous way - with past times during the existance of the communist GDR.
On this limited EP they present 4+1 banging electro-smashers ranging somewhere between GDR-educational TV, (n)ostalgia and seminal future electronics. A cult release, just like a product of VEB Elektrowärme Altenburg (VEB was the official communist term for 'People owned enterprises') - including the pop song for all SPU's worldwide: 'Der Brigadier trinkt Bier' (the brigadier drinks beer). Drink and dance with us but beware: This EP is strictly limited to 500 copies and is destined to be sold out VERY FAST! The CD moreover comes in a great (n)ostalgic GDR-7'-Single-design plus 7'-sized cover!
