Alphaville, one of the most famous and successful german bands ever, are celebrating their 30th anniversary this year. For the first time ever "so8os pres. Alphaville" brings together all original 12" Mixes from the 80s plus their famous B-Sides. All songs are transfered from the Original Master Tapes and the band is actively involved in the whole project with Blank & Jones.
In January 1984 the song "Big In Japan" was released and Alphaville started to conquer the world. Founded in Münster but musically sticking to their Berlin roots they captured that special vibe of the city in the 80's, just as artists like David Bowie or bands like Depeche Mode. The unique and outstanding voice of Marian Gold was given the optimal musical ambience by the smart decision of making the legendary JUPITER 8 Synthesizer (also used on all Trevor Horn productions at the time) the key instrument on the first album production. Generated by the clash between the young innocent synth boys from Alphaville versus the professional and experienced producer team of Colin Pearson and Wolfgang Loos, the resulting album "Forerver Young" definitely plays in the same league as ABC's "The Lexicon of Love", Human League's "Dare" or Tears For Fears "The Hurting" and still sounds fresh 30 years on!
When it comes to the selection of remixers for their 12" versions Alphaville chose consequently from the "who is who" in the business: Zeus B. Held, who later remixed Dead Or Alive, Kissing The Pink and Etienne Daho; John "Jellybean" Benitez, New York's hottest remixer at the time, who has further produced artists such as Madonna, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson and the Pointer Sisters; US big name Steve Thompson, who also mixed 12" versions for Talk Talk, A-ha and Ultravox; and last but not least celebrated electronic pioneer Klaus Schulze!
This collection of 12" releases covers not only the A-sides but also the B-sides which Alphaville used as a field for experiments without any commercial commitments. The results represent more than just hidden treasures. With fan favourites like "Seeds" or "Next Generation" they open up a whole new dimension of Alphaville music that make you wish B-sides were still needed in todays music. Bernhard Lloyd searched many archives and found all master tapes well secured and ready for transfer.
Together with him and Marian Gold, Blank & Jones carefully started the process of mastering the transfers from the tapes and let the musical diamonds shine once again! The Double CD comes with a 36 page booklet incl. all original record artworks, private archive photos and track by track annotations by Alphaville.
